For the past year, I’ve had the joy of being part of the Marseille-based feminist collective SOLAR. Alongside Fanny Magot, Giulia Frigieri, Kamila K Stanley, Orianne Ciantar Olive and Tina Masoumi, we form a group of six photographers and one curator, brought together by a shared desire: to create space, visibility, and sorority within the Marseille photographic landscape.
This past year has been incredibly rich in projects and opportunities for the collective. In June, we launched our exhibition We Will Not Destroy the World, We Will Create a New One at Mesure Créatif Club in Marseille, accompanied by a full weekend of round tables, portfolio readings, guided visits, and informal gatherings.
During the professional week of the Rencontres d’Arles, SOLAR had the opportunity to present works at Galerie Triangle. In Paris, we also organized a capsule exhibition and a round table at Fondation agnès b. around the theme The Importance of Collectives in a Divided World.
Invited by Magnum Photos, SOLAR was furthermore involved for three weeks as part of a summer masterclass in the south of France, contributing to the agency’s educational program.
Creating a supportive collective space between women photographers in the region feels more essential than ever, at a time when representation of female artists remains structurally limited. Looking ahead, SOLAR aims to gradually open the collective to other women photographers based in the region, continuing to grow this network of mutual support, dialogue, and shared creation.
